This 7th edition of the Forum is organized by the City of Bordeaux<\/strong>, whose mayor is also President of the GSEF, with the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, the Department of Gironde, Bordeaux M\u00e9tropole and the CRESS Nouvelle-Aquitaine, in close collaboration with the GSEF General Secretariat.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

A major event is set to be held in Bordeaux in October 2025. We are immensely proud of being the host city for the seventh Global Social and Solidarity Economy Forum, and as mayor, I am not only proud but also extremely hopeful, because there is every reason to believe that in economic terms, the twenty-first century will either be SSE or won\u2019t be, to paraphrase a famous quote by Malraux. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is my deep, personal conviction, and it is ours, collectively. Back in 2021, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, the Department of Gironde, Bordeaux M\u00e9tropole and the City of Bordeaux decided to move forward hand in hand in support of the Social and Solidarity Economy, to encourage innovation and collective approaches while raising awareness among new audiences, and to facilitate access to land for committed businesses. This is a rare and exemplary situation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The consequences of this joint commitment are very\ntangible, and the figures are eminently encouraging.\nIn the municipality of Bordeaux alone, where there are almost 1,500 establishments \u2013 half of the city\u2019s SSE organisations \u2013 the number of employees has increased by more than 20% in the last ten years. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\n

We have managed to turn our regions into testing\ngrounds, inventing new relationships and creating virtuous\neconomies that promote the principles of solidarity\nand social utility. We are proving by example that\nmunicipalities and other local authorities have a central\nrole to play, thanks to their proximity to citizens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2022, I travelled to the UN headquarters in New York\nto represent local government bodies and business\nnetworks in support of the need for a reference text on\nthe SSE. Such a resolution was adopted by the United\nNations General Assembly on 18 April 2023. This was an\nimportant milestone, which we celebrated at the Dakar\nForum held during the following month. The Bordeaux\n2025 Forum will be an opportunity to take another step\nin what is nothing short of a revolution. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Much more than a purely economic project, the\nSocial and Solidarity Economy is also a political project.
It encompasses the pursuit of a fairer society\nthat defends rights and our environment, a society\nbased
on solidarity, and a vision of equitably,
redistributed wealth based on sustainably managed resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Collective action must be taken on an international\nscale if this project is to succeed. Within the GSEF, the\ncommitment of the SSE stakeholders and players represented\nby the CRESS Nouvelle Aquitaine and ESS France\nreflects this desire for social transformation that makes\nthe economy a vehicle for individual and collective\nemancipation. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\n

Our next event \u2013 the Bordeaux 2025 Forum \u2013 will showcase this profusion of initiatives, practices and people committed to serving the general interest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our conviction is that a desirable and just future can\nonly be achieved through the SSE and the policy of forging the links required to foster solidarity between the world\u2019s citizens. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Social and Solidarity Economy is inextricably linked to my conception of political action. It is just as much one of the linchpins of a major regional development policy, bringing life back to places where it may sadly have disappeared, as it is a profound source of innovation, particularly in human terms. It also complements and inspires the conventional economy. In the absence of a lucrative market \u2013 often in rural areas, or in public utility sectors such as waste, funeral services or integration through economic activity \u2013 the SSE\nis on hand to bring together all the stakeholders in a given area and forge a society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this way, it becomes a laboratory for all kinds of transitions, a permanent field of exploration and a model for corporate territorial responsibility.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\n

It is an immense source of regional pride: Nouvelle-\nAquitaine was the first region to create a division\nentirely dedicated to the Social and Solidarity Economy\n(SSE). The tenth anniversary of the Hamon Law is an\nappropriate occasion to assess how far we have come\nand to set a new course in order to ramp up this vast\nmovement; an approach which, by its very nature, accommodates\nthe bifurcations essential to the entire\neconomic world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Global SSE Forum in Bordeaux, where delegations from all over the world will be converging with the shared conviction that the SSE is a viable and humanistic economic model, compatible with planetary limits, will be the perfect opportunity to demonstrate its relevance. See you in October 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The major social, economic, ecological and societal transformations of the 21st century will either be collective or won\u2019t be. Here in Gironde, we are creating a network of human and territorial solidarity in order to promote simultaneous reflection and action everywhere, in tune with local realities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The roadmap we share with the SSE players\nin Gironde enables us to carry out projects\nin the general and collective interest and\nto innovate based on the realities of the\nterritory in which we live, in contrast to a\nvertical market economy that is disconnected\nfrom realities in the field and leads to\nenvironmental predation, withdrawal, social\nexclusion and a feeling of abandonment.  
Nourished by its strong local roots, this local\neconomy becomes a means of integration,\nthanks to the sustainable jobs it creates, which cannot be relocated, and helps to\nbuild the social fabric that is essential to the\nresilience of our society. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Joining the GSEF will enable the Gironde\necosystem to benefit from the international\nmomentum that is essential in order to\nenrich local social and solidarity networks\nin the medium and long term. Tomorrow\u2019s\neconomy will, first and foremost, be a\ngrassroots economy! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Gironde, as in the rest of the world, there\ncan be no long-term prosperity on a planet\nengulfed by climatic and social disasters.\nIn addition to our local actions, we are\ncommitted to forging links with civil society\nbeyond our borders in order to convey the\nhope of a fair form of globalisation that is\nactively engaged at the local level. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The SSE is a breeding ground for social innovation.\nIt is helping to make our territory an active,\nsolidarity-oriented metropolis, and is wholly\nconsistent with the new trajectory our local authority\nwishes to take.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aware of the economic, social and\nenvironmental issues at stake, Bordeaux M\u00e9tropole\nhas created a support ecosystem for stakeholders\nwhich encourages the development of economic\nprojects and numerous initiatives for its inhabitants\nand its territory. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Supported by an ambitious metropolitan policy over\nthe last fifteen years, the SSE is playing an increasingly\nimportant role throughout our area by ensuring\nthe existence of solidarity down to the last mile,\nmeeting the essential needs of our fellow citizens, and\nproviding multiple, adapted and innovative responses\nto social and environmental challenges. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, Bordeaux is delighted to continue this work\nby hosting the Global SSE Forum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The commitment\nshared by our local authority, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine\nRegion, the Department of Gironde and the City of\nBordeaux enables us to align the different strategies\nbeing implemented in order to offer our partners\ncoordinated and complementary initiatives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These opportunities to engage in discussion and\nshare experiences with global players in the SSE\nsector will enable us to keep raising the profile of the\nSSE, while promoting inspiring solutions that can be\ndisseminated throughout our territories as concrete\nexamples of an inclusive and supportive job-creating\nmodel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
